50 farmers booked in Moga

50 farmers booked in Moga

Moga, November 2

The district administration today booked at least 50 farmers and imposed penalties on 65 farmers for stubble-burning in many villages across the district.

Plant Protection Officer of Moga Dr Jaswinder Brar said after receiving a satellite report from the Remote Sensing Department, of the agriculture, panchayat, revenue and other departments visited the stubble-burning spots in many villages. They confirmed at least 65 new incidents of farm fires. “The farmers who burnt the paddy residue were imposed penalties. We have also recommended to the police to register cases against them,” he said.

He said the police had also registered cases against 50 farmers who were fined yesterday. “We are not going to spare even a single farmer who burns paddy residue,” he warned. Dr Brar said “red entry” had been marked in the girdawari of the land owned by 150 farmers. “These farmers will not be eligible for farm subsidies in future,” he said. — TNS
