The police today claimed to have seized 225-kg poppy husk in Abohar and neighbouring Sriganganagar.

The police recovered 80-kg poppy husk from a car at Dhani Chiragh, located near the bypass here. Gurmeet Singh of Chak Maujdin Wala village in Fazilka and Jaswinder Singh of Gobindgarh were arrested under the NDPS Act.

In another incident, Ravinder Singh of Patrewala village near here was nabbed with 5-kg poppy husk.

In Sriganganagar, the police seized 140-kg poppy husk from a jeep and a car. The vehicles were intercepted while passing through an under-construction railway bridge. Police team in-charge Suresh Kaswan said Raja Ram of Surpura village and Ram Chander of Bajju were arrested under the NDPS Act. They will be produced in a court to tomorrow.

The Hanumangarh police nabbed Gurmeet Singh Sidhu of Sangria on Friday night. Sidhu had been absconding since October 10 when 10-quintal poppy husk was seized from a truck. Driver Malkiat Singh and cleaner Mangat Pal Singh had claimed that the poppy husk was to be supplied to Sidhu. The police claimed that Gurmeet had confessed having arranged 11 consignments of poppy husk from Ratlam in Madhya Pradesh this year. He was named in the FIR registered in this connection.
