Amritsar, August 9
While suspense prevailed over the operation of the Samjhauta Express train, the bus service and trade between India and Pakistan continues as per normal routine, but in scant quantum.
Apparently, in retaliation of abrogation of Article 370 in J&K, there was disruption of train service between Attari and Lahore on August 8 when the Pakistan Railways refused to send its crew and guard to the Indian side due to security concerns. The train which was halted at the Wagah side was brought to Attari by an Indian driver and a guard.
Indian officials said the service was temporarily suspended and had not been cancelled ‘officially’, the exact position would be known by Monday only as the train was scheduled to go to Pakistan on that day.
DRM, Ferozepur Division Rajesh Agarwal confirmed that no official communication was received whether the Samjhauta Express train service would stand cancelled. Shiv Dular Singh, DC, said there was no communication regarding termination of Amritsar–Lahore bus, but the occupancy was little. — TNS
