Chandigarh, May 14

The Punjab and Haryana High Court today put Cabinet minister Bharat Bhushan Ashu and 21 others on notice on a petition seeking CBI probe and registration of an FIR for forgery and other offences into the alleged CLU scam that had rocked the state Assembly during the Budget session.

The matter pertains to alleged unauthorised construction of flats in Ludhiana.

The notice by Justice Arvind Singh Sangwan came on a petition filed by Kuldeep Singh Khaira through counsel Gurpreet Singh Sandhu.

Sandhu said the petitioner, an RTI activist, had submitted a complaint regarding unauthorised construction of flats in Ludhiana’s Ishar Nagar, following which a probe was ordered.

He alleged that the minister during the inquiry proceedings in the matter had put pressure on inquiry officer DSP Balwinder Singh Sekhon to come out with a favorable report.

Sandhu further alleged that the minister even threatened the inquiry officer that he would have to face dire consequences, if he conducted a fair inquiry. He added that the threats showed that the minister was involved in criminal conspiracy with the other respondents

Although the inquiry officer did not recommended initiation of action against the minister, he submitted a separate complaint dated February 14 to the DGP against Ashu for causing interruption in government duty and threatening to kill him.
