Kabaddi meet begins at Sultanpur Lodhi

Sports Minister Rana Gurmeet Singh Sodhi today inaugurated the International Kabaddi Tournament-2019 at Sultanpur Lodhi. As many as eight teams are participating in the tournament which is being held at the holy city to mark the 550th Parkash Purb of Guru Nanak.

The minister said the winning team would be given a cash prize of Rs 25 lakh while the runners-up and the team clinching the third position would get Rs 15 lakh and Rs 10 lakh, respectively.

Around 150 players from eight teams are taking part in the kabaddi extravaganza. The teams are from India, Australia, Canada, England, Kenya, New Zealand, Sri Lanka and USA.

He said the participating teams have been divided into two groups. While India, England, Sri Lanka and Australia are in Group A, Canada, USA, New Zealand and Kenya are in Group B.

However, the absence of the Pakistan team generated quite a buzz among organisers and spectators here.

The Pakistan team’s visit and high-voltage matches between India and Pakistan teams were being pegged as the highlights of the eagerly awaited tournament.

MLAs Rana Gurjit Singh and Navtej Singh Cheema were also present on the occasion. The closing ceremony of the tournament will be held at Dera Baba Nanak in Gurdaspur on December 10. It shall be presided over by the Chief Minister.

Around 150 players from eight teams are taking part in the International Kabbadi Tournament-2019. The teams are from India, Australia, Canada, England, Kenya, New Zealand, Sri Lanka and USA.
