Sidhu has no role in Kartarpur project: Badal

Sidhu has no role in Kartarpur project: Badal

Amritsar, November 8

Former Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal is reluctant to award any credit to Navjot Singh Sidhu in facilitating the Kartarpur corridor. He has appealed to the Capt Amarinder Singh-led state government to participate in the SGPC-sponsored programmes to mark the 550th birth anniversary of Guru Nanak Dev at Sultanpur Lodhi on November 12.

A day prior to attending the formal opening of the Kartarpur corridor, Badal paid obeisance at the Golden Temple.

It was Sidhu who broke the news that modalities were being chalked out from the Pakistan side to open the corridor after returning from Pakistan PM Imran Khan’s swearing-in ceremony in 2018.

Badal said it was the outcome of prayers of crores of devotees that the Kartarpur corridor was constructed. “I don’t criticise or defame anyone, but Sidhu has no role to play in this project. The ‘ardas’ of crores of devotees was heard and we are fortunate that the 550th birth anniversary of Guru Nanak and Kartarpur corridor occurred in our lifespan. I demand that the $20 service fee imposed on devotees should be waived by Pakistan,” he said.

He said instead of indulging in petty politics, the state government should participate in the SGPC programmes scheduled for the Prakash Purb at Sultanpur Lodhi. — TNS
