Muktsar, November 7

Nearly four months after the rains caused widespread losses in 59 villages in Muktsar district, farmers are yet to get compensation from the state government.

The state government had immediately ordered assessment of the damages to crops and buildings. However, the report was submitted just a few days ago.

As a result, those who suffered losses are awaiting financial assistance from the state government. Notably, the state government gives Rs 12,000 per acre compensation in such cases. Similarly, Rs 95,000 are given for house damage.

Sources in the district administration said the report of special girdawari was earlier delayed due to political pressure and now revenue officials were busy with stubble fire incidents.

Avtar Singh, District Revenue Officer, Muktsar, said, “The report of damage to crops and buildings has been submitted to the state government, but now it has asked us to send the Aadhaar-linked account numbers of the farmers. The money has to go directly into their accounts. In the past, the cheques were being issued to the farmers.”
