Committee set up to probe land-grab charges

Committee set up to probe land-grab charges

Surinder Bhardwaj

Fatehgarh Sahib, Nov 25

Minister of Rural Development Tript Rajinder Singh Bajwa has set up a five-member committee, headed by the Director, Rural Development, to investigate the charges of occupation of panchayat land worth several crores in villages near Mandi Gobindgarh.

The minister took action after ADC (D) Jagwinderjit Singh Sandhu wrote a letter to him alleging that the land mafia in connivance with the officials of the rural development in the Amloh sub-division had grabbed panchayat land. Notably, the ADC (D) is part of the probe panel constituted by Bajwa.

Sandhu alleged that when he tried to investigate the matter neither rural development officers cooperated with him nor responded to his letters.

However, Amloh BDPO Kulwinder Singh alleged that the ADC (D) was levelling false allegations.

In the letter to the minister, the ADC (D) had submitted a list detailing the land occupied by the mafia. The land is located at Salana, Salani, Baronga Buland, Machrai Kalan and Jalalpur villages.

Mentioning the modus operandi, he said panchayat land is initially given on lease for a limited period. However, later it is given to industrialists for setting up factories without the approval of officers.
