Former CMParkash Singh Badal and SGPC president Gobind Singh Longowal are unlikely to accept the special award announced by the state government to mark the Parkash Purb.

However, Akali leader and Rajya Sabha MP Sukhdev Singh Dhindsa has accepted the award, even as he may not attend the function on November 10.

Though party sources said Bathinda MP and Union Minister for Food Processing Harsimrat Kaur Badal was also sounded by the government for the award, her name was not in the official list.

“Anyway, she would have not accepted it,” said party sources, adding that Badal too would never receive such award from a Congress government.

“He has been fighting the oppressive policies of the Congress government during his political career,” said a senior functionary of the party. He added that a formal decision would be announced soon.

Among awardees

First Sikh billionaire Bob Dhillon, first Sikh Chief Justice of India Justice JS Khehar, Admiral Karambir S and rice revolutionist Dr Gurdev Khush are among the prominent people who have been finalised for the award.

The names of some prominent NRIs figure on the list. They include US-based CEO of Mastercard Ajaypal Singh Banga, Canadian Sikh billionaire Bob Singh Dhillon, UK-based business magnate Swaraj Paul, London-based politician Lord Raj Loomba, businessman Lord Raminder Singh Ranger, US-based physicist Narinder Singh Kapany and New Zealand-based industrialist Bhav Dhillon. The Tribune Trustees former J&K Governor NN Vohra and Justice SS Sodhi (retd) too figure on the list.
