Have curbed drug menace: Cong

Have curbed drug menace: Cong

Phagwara, October 7

Claiming victory of the Congress candidates on all four seats during the coming bypolls, Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee (PPCC) chief Sunil Jakhar blamed the SAD for the prevailing situation in the state.

Talking before addressing two poll meetings here, Jakhar said during the SAD government a ‘jungle raj’ prevailed in the state due to the ‘politicisation’ of the civil and police administration.

He said now SAD leaders wanted to politicalise the religious congregations even during the 550th Parkash Purb of Guru Nanak. Describing the SAD-BJP as an ‘opportunistic’ alliance, Jakhar said SAD was adopting double standards as it was contesting polls in Punjab with the BJP while it was adopting a different stand in Haryana.

Replying to a question about the increasing crime rate and drugs menace, he said the Punjab Government had succeeded in curbing these problems to some extent, but much remained to be done.

He was accompanied by Industry Minister Sunder Sham Arora, Congress MLA Navtej Singh Cheema and Congress candidate Balwinder Singh Dhaliwal. Addressing a poll meeting in support of Dhaliwal, Jakhar appealed to the people to vote for the Congress to stabilise the economy of the state and for all-round development. —OC
