Sangrur, October 8

Seven days have passed since a rape case was registered on the complaint of a Dalit woman, both accused have been roaming freely. They have allegedly threatened the victim to kidnap her daughter. The victim today submitted an application to the Punjab SC Commission and demanded action against cops and arrest of the accused.

“The victim has alleged that first the police sought Rs 3,000 from her as petrol expenses and then FIR was registered only after the interference of the SC Commission. But now the same cops are not arresting the accused, who are threatening the victim and her family with dire consequences. We will take appropriate action,” said Poonam Kangra, member, Punjab state SC Commission after meeting the victim in Sangrur.

As per details, the Dirba police had registered a case against Sukhwinder Singh and Arshdeep Singh under Sections 376 and 34 of the IPC on October 1 after the victim was allegedly raped near a canal of Dhandoli Kalan village.

“Since the registration of the FIR, both accused have been threatening me and even saying repeatedly in front of my house that they will get my family implicated in a false case. Me and my family have been living under threat since the registration of the FIR,” the victim said in her complaint to the commission. The victim alleged that the accused were also threatening to kill her and her family members if she does not withdraw the case.

“The accused are openly threatening to kidnap my daughter, but the police say they are conducting raids to arrest the accused. I request the CM and the DGP to look into the matter,” said the victim.

Sangrur SSP Dr Sandeep Garg said the matter was not in his knowledge as the victim had neither called him nor visited her office and even she had not submitted any complaint to his office for action. “The accused will be arrested at the earliest,” he said.
