State 2nd in logistics ease

Chandigarh: Punjab has been awarded second in the country in logistics ease by the Union Ministry of Commerce and Industry. The announcement was made in the Board Meeting held in the capital under the Chairmanship of Union Minister Piyush Goyal here on Thursday. Additional Chief Secretary, Commerce and Industries, Vini Mahajan, said “Punjab has attracted more than 50,000 crores of investment in the last two years, demonstrating the revival of industry”. TNS

Bains’ plea hearing on Sept 16

Gurdaspur: The Gurdaspur District and Sessions Judge fixed September 16 as the next date of hearing for the anticipatory bail plea of Atam Nagar (Ludhiana) MLA Simrajit Singh Bains. Four advocates appeared on the behalf of the MLA while the state was represented by the District Attorney. “His arrest has not been stayed. The judge will give the final decision on his bail plea on September 16,” said a police officer. TNS

Woman raped by neighbour

Moga: A 21-year-old married woman was allegedly raped by her neighbour at her paternal home in Raoke Kalan village of Moga district, the police said on Thursday. In her complaint, the victim said she came to meet her parents and her neighbour Kuldeep Singh allegedly raped her while she was alone at home. The accused fled when the victim's mother returned. Kuldeep is yet to be arrested, the police said.TNS

Shepherd axes wife to death

Fazilka: A man allegedly axed his wife to death in Ganjuana Hasta village of Fazilka district on Thursday. The police said Puran Chand, a shepherd, who was allegedly under stress, repeatedly hit his wife Parmjit Kaur on the neck with an axe around 4 am, killing her on the spot. Sadar police station SHO Jaswant Singh said the accused was booked under Section 302 of the IPC on the basis of the statement of the accused’s elder son, Gagandeep. Chand is at large. OC

Revenue officials threaten stir

Ropar: Two days after alleging that Ropar SSP Swapan Sharma had misbehaved with Morinda tehsildar and exceeded his mandate, members of the Punjab Revenue Officers Association on Thursday announced that they would boycott all magisterial and protocol duties till the SSP was not transferred. Association president Gurdev Singh Dham said no revenue officer would communicate with higher authorities till their grievances were addressed. He said Morinda tehsildar Amandeep Singh Chawala had alleged that he was confined illegally by the police. TNS
