Service selection board post to Pal raises eyebrows

Service selection board post to Pal raises eyebrows

Chandigarh, September 8

Close on the heels of the fiasco over according the Minister of State status to the newly appointed chairman of Punjab State Youth Development Board Sukhwinder Bindra, the appointment of Patiala resident Ravinder Pal Singh Sweety as a member of the Punjab Subordinate Services Selection Board (PSSSB) has raised eyebrows.

In Bindra’s case, the government had clarified that the Minister of State status was mentioned by a mistake. Among the 11 members of the PSSSB, Ravinder seems to be the only one who represents two political parties — the Congress and Panthic Akali Lehar Party.

“About a month ago, he was made a member of the executive committee of the Patiala unit of the Panthic Akali Lehar Party,” said a leader of the Panthic party.

On the other hand, he was with the Akali Dal before joining as a member of the Patiala Congress unit three years ago. Raising questions over his appointment, Congress leaders wondered as to how anyone could share platforms of two parties.

Ravinder claimed that he was just a member of the ‘gurdwara sudhar committee’ of the Panthic Akali Lehar Party. “It is a religious endeavour and there is no political dimension to it,” he added. Other members of the PSSSB are Jaspal Dhillon, Kuldip Kahlon, Behari Singh, Rajneesh Sahota, Romila Bansal, Bhupinder Singh, Amarjeet Walia, Harpartap Sidhu and Alta Ahluwalia.

The objection

A month ago, Pal was made a member of the executive committee of Patiala unit of the Panthic Akali Lehar Party. Earlier, he was with the Akali Dal.
