Chandigarh, September 15

The Punjab Police rounded up 10 persons allegedly belonging to a Khalistani terror module for questioning in connection with the September 4 Tarn Taran blast.

Ballistics experts of the National Investigation Agency, National Security Guards (NSG) and the Punjab Police have reported that two persons who died in the explosion were making a low-intensity crude bomb using sodium and potassium nitrate.

The deceased were identified as Harpreet Singh, 19, of Bachre village, Bikram Singh, 22, of Kaddgill village.

Senior officers of the Punjab Police said on the basis of strong leads, 10 persons had been detained, who were being questioned on the probable target of the bomb they were making. Officials said exact details could not be shared at this moment as it may hamper the investigation. Officials confirmed there was no trace of RDX from the blast site.

A senior police officer said they were quite close to cracking the entire module.

The case has not been handed over to the National Investigation Agency yet, although the premier investigation agency usually takes up all terror-related cases in the country.

The state police had, in last three years, busted about 55 terror modules allegedly related to Khalistan militants, who were supported by Pakistan-based agencies.

The police have specifically found the role of Happy PHD, a top operative of the Khalistan movement who is based in Pakistan.
