Assault: Traders, Valmikis reach a compromise

Fazilka, September 10

The Beopar Mandal, Fazilka, and Valmiki Samaj members have reached a compromise in the assault on trader case after the intervention of SSP Bhupinder Singh. Both the groups have agreed to work together in future in a cordial atmosphere.

After the announcement of the Beopar Mandal to go on indefinite strike from Wednesday onwards, SSP Bhupinder Singh invited the leaders of both the factions in his office and persuaded them for a patch-up.

Sources said the Valmiki Samaj members realised their mistake and assured to work together with the Beopar Mandal in future. After the compromise, SSP Bhupinder Singh and DSP Jagdish Kumar accompanied by the Valmiki Samaj leaders visited the shop of Beopar Mandal president Ashok Gulbadhar where they reiterated the resolve to maintain peaceful atmosphere in the town.

The SSP said it was his responsibility to bring all factions together to defuse the tension and he had been successful in his initiative.

Notably, Beopar Mandal member and grocery shop owner Sunil Parnami was assaulted by protesters on September 7 during the bandh call given by the Valmiki community after the row over a TV show “Ram Siya Ke Luv Kush”, which resulted in resentment among the traders.

Beopar Mandal president, however, said their demand of suspending the city police station SHO still remains as he failed to maintain law and order in the town, resulting in injuries to traders. He said stones were thrown at the trader in presence of the SHO who failed to protect him.

Gulbadhar said the strike had been postponed for another three days as the administration had assured to take suitable action against the SHO.
