Fazilka: Asha workers staged a dharna at the local civil hospital on Monday against the alleged misbehaviour by Fazilka civil surgeon on September 13. The Asha workers, led by their district unit president Kiran Bala, alleged that the CS had misbehaved, hurled abuses and levelled allegation against them. They raised slogans against him and sought action. When contacted, civil surgeon Dr Daler Singh Multani brushed aside the allegation and said complaints had been received against some of the Asha workers. He had shot off a letter to the health minister apprising him of the situation, the CS added. OC

NABARD campaign against stubble-burning

Fatehgarh Sahib: DC Prashant Kumar Goyal launched a campaign against stubble-burning, initiated by NABARD Punjab Office, in 160 villages of the district. He appreciated the efforts of NABARD to curb stubble-burning and said it was the need of the hour. The campaign would focus on generating awareness regarding and demonstrating use of various machines and practices to curb the menace. Sanjeev Kumar Sharma, DDM, NABARD, said a project on 'Climate Resilience Building In Rural Areas Through Crop Residue Management' had been sanctioned by Union Ministry of Environment, Forests and Climate Change. 65 boxes of liquor seized, two arrested

Barnala: The Barnala Crime Investigation Agency (CIA) has arrested two persons and confiscated 65 boxes of smuggled liquor from their possession. “Last night, we confiscated 65 boxes of smuggled liquor and arrested Jaswinder Singh and Amandeep Singh from near Bhaini Mehraj village. Both were in a Safari. We have registered a case and started further investigations,” said ASI Shareef Khan. TNS

4 booked for Rs 3.38L fraud

Muktsar: The Muktsar (City) police have booked four residents of West Bengal and Bihar for allegedly duping a local girl of Rs 3.38 lakh on the pretext of delivering her a Tata Safari car as gift. The victim, Bharti, lodged a complaint to the police alleging that some persons had recently called her, introduced themselves as executives of an e-tailer and demanded some money to deliver a Tata Safari in the gift. “They asked me to deposit Rs 3.38 lakh in some bank accounts to claim the gift,” she alleged. Acting on her statement, the DSP (D) conducted a probe and ordered to register an FIR against Mohammad Azmal Hussain, Nazia, Likhil Kumar and Kishan Lal. The accused are yet to be arrested. TNS

2 jail guards suspended for carrying phones

Ropar: During a check by Jails Minister Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa, two warders posted at district jail were suspended for carrying their mobile phones during office hours on Monday. TNS
