AAP wants probe under HC judge

AAP wants probe under HC judge

Chandigarh, September 10

Senior leader of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) and Leader of Opposition (LoP) Harpal Singh Cheema has demanded a time-bound inquiry into the multi-crore Punjab Small Scale Industrial and Export Corporation (PSIEC) plot allotment scam under the watch of a sitting High Court judge, alleging the Punjab Government has been trying to hush up the matter.

Addressing mediapersons here today, Cheema released a 77-page report of the probe conducted by the Vigilance Bureau into the scam. He said the probe, which was handed over to the Vigilance Bureau on April 4, 2018, by the state government, was completed on January 30 this year.

Cheema said names of several senior officials of PSIEC had figured in the scam, which involved seeking allotment of plots through fake documents or the IDs of PSIEC officials’ relatives.

“The plots were allotted from 2004 onwards at Amritsar, Ludhiana, Dera Bassi and Chanalo to the relatives of six senior officers of PSIEC. They deposited the 10 per cent earnest money only and held on to the plot. Once the land prices soared, they looked for an entrepreneur partner and offered 95 per cent partnership. Once this was done, the remaining 30 per cent amount was deposited with PSIEC. Afterwards, the kin of officers would dissolve the partnership and walk out, making a huge profit on the sale of plot. The entrepreneur had the advantage of not paying the transfer fee, thus saving up to Rs 20 lakh,” alleged Cheema.

He alleged that though the VB had indicted the officials, efforts were being made by the Congress government to scuttle the probe report. — TNS
