Muktsar, August 8

The Bariwala police yesterday booked two activists of the Naujawan Bharat Sabha for allegedly blocking the Muktsar-Kotkapura national highway, damaging it by pitching in a tent and provoking the crowd.

Those booked are Manga Azad, a state committee member of the sabha and convener of the Joint Action Committee (JAC) formed to seek justice over the murder of two Dalits of Jawahrewala village last month, and Jagjit Singh, district general secretary of the sabha.

Sub-Inspector Rupinderpal Kaur, SHO, Bariwala police station, in her complaint, mentioned that Manga and Jagjit were provoking the mob at the road accident site near the toll plaza on the Muktsar-Kotkapura highway on August 7. Four youngsters of Warring village had died in the mishap.

“I got the information that a large number of people have gathered at the accident site near the toll plaza and anything untoward could have happened. I reached the spot and saw that Manga and Jagjit were provoking the people present there, damaged the road and blocked it by pitching a tent there. The road blockade had created obstacles for the commuters and even the problems were coming to shift the patients to the hospital,” stated the SHO in the complaint.

A case under sections 268, 283, 431, 341,153-B of the IPC and relevant sections of the Prevention of Damage to Public Property Act has been registered. The accused are yet to be arrested.
