Amritsar, August 12

The SGPC has come to the rescue of Kashmiri-origin women, who have been feeling insecure while staying outside their native place.

Following abrogation of Article 370 in J&K, the Kashmiri women are not feeling safe in the state. The SGPC has opened the doors of all gurdwaras and institutions under its control in various states to shelter those Kashmiri women who are in jeopardy.

SGPC chief secretary Dr Roop Singh said their security and wellbeing would be the prime motive. He cited the example of Ahmad Shah Abdali era when around 22,000 Hindu women who were made slaves were sent back to their homes safely by Sikhs. “Kashmir is part of India and their citizens are our brothers and sisters. We share the liability to ensure their safety. Those who use loathsome remarks against them have shown their sick mentality. We have intimated all gurdwaras and educational institutions to accommodate them and extend all possible help,” he said.

32 Pune girls sent back home

Hawara Committee spokesperson Prof Baljinder Singh claimed that 32 Kashmiri girls from Pune had been safely sent to their native place. He said these girls had taken admission in an institute, but lost touch with their parents back home due to adverse circumstances. “The committee had posted an appeal on social media for Kashmiri girls, following which these girls contacted our team members,” he said.
