Sangrur, August 11

Members of the TET-Pass BEd Unemployed Teachers’ Union, Punjab, on Sunday protested near the residence of Education Minister Vijay Inder Singla and sought recruitment in the department.

The teachers ended their protest after getting an assurance from the minister. However, they threatened to restart an indefinite strike if the authorities fail to recruit them at the earliest.

Earlier in the day, the teachers gathered at a city park and marched towards Singla’s residence on Sangrur-Patiala bypass. They blocked the road and raised slogans against the Punjab Government and the minister. Later, they sat outside the main gate of the minister’s residence and protested. “Today, the Education Minister has assured us to convene a meeting before September 7 to accept our demands. But if he fails to do so, we will start an indefinite protest,” said Randeep Sangatpura, press secretary of the union.

Meanwhile, state president of the union Sukhwinder Dhilwan alleged that before the elections, the Punjab Government had promised jobs under Ghar-Ghar Rozgar scheme, but after coming to power it has forgotten all its promises.
