Two days after the police and civil administration urged the Kashmiri students at local college campuses to stay calm in view of revoking of Article 370, security was stepped up to ensure that no untoward incident takes place.

The police have formed a WhatsApp group with an SP-rank official, SHO, institute head and hostel wardens as members.

Manoj Kumar, principal, DAVIET, said, “We have asked the students to avoid sharing any unconfirmed and provocative messages.”

Since the decision coincided with the admission time, the colleges are worried over the fate of new students from J&K.

Manbir Singh, Director, CT Institute, said, “Only 50 of the nearly 300 newly enrolled students have joined the campus so far. We are now worried as to when the remaining students would be able to come and whether or not they will be able to join.”

It is learnt that Punjab Technical University has made a provision for Kashmiri students, exempting them of 10 per cent additional shortfall in attendance. An engineering college principal said, “While other students have to maintain 75 per cent attendance, Kashmiri students are allowed 65 per cent.”

LPU chancellor Ashok Mittal said 600-700 Kashmiri students studying in the university had approached him over problem regarding fund transfer for fee. “We have exempted them from late fee charges”.
