I-Day: Top cops review security arrangements

Inspector General of Police (IGP) Rakesh Aggarwal held parleys with officers of the district civil and police administration regarding the security arrangements to be made in wake of visit of Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh to the city on Independence Day.

The IG, accompanied by Deputy Commissioner Varinder Kumar Sharma and Commissioner of Police Gurpreet Singh Bhullar, inspected Guru Gobind Singh Stadium where the Chief Minister would unfurl the Tricolour on August 15.

The officers inspected the stadium and gave necessary directions to the security personnel and civil staff regarding the arrangements to be made for the event. The IG said all arrangements regarding sitting, parking of vehicles, deployment of medical and firefighting teams, security and others should be meticulously planned and executed.

Briefing the IG about the arrangements, the Deputy Commissioner and Commissioner of Police said the district administration would make foolproof arrangements for traffic diversion, parking of vehicles, security arrangements and other facilities. They said duties had been assigned to the officers of the civil and police administration and every officer concerned has been asked to make sure that their staff performed their duty diligently for smooth conduct of event. Both officers said any sort of callousness in performing this duty was unwanted and undesirable.

The DC and CP also informed the IG that full dress rehearsal for the mega event would take place on August 13 to ensure smooth execution of the function.

On the occasion, ADC Jasbir Singh, DCP Gurmeet Singh and ADCP Sachin Gupta and others were also present.
