Four youths die as bus, mobike collide

In a head-on collision between a bus of the Dabwali Transport Company and a motorcycle, four youths, all relatives, were killed on the Muktsar-Kotkapura highway near the toll plaza at Warring village here today.

The deceased, all of Warring village, who worked as labourers, were going towards Muktsar and the bus was going towards Kotkapura when the mishap occurred. Three youths died on the spot, while the fourth breathed his last on way to hospital.

The Dabwali Transport Company is owned by the Badals.

Sources said all the four deceased were riding one motorcycle and trying to overtake a truck when the accident occurred. Sources said the bus dragged the motorcycle for about 100 m.

Later, relatives of the deceased protested by blocking the Muktsar-Kotkapura highway, demanding financial assistance and case against the accused bus driver, who had managed to flee from the spot. They had even pitched a tent on the highway and arranged some refrigerated coffins to put the bodies on the road. Meanwhile, some diversions were made for the traffic. After a few hours of discussions, the protest was lifted and a case registered against the bus driver.

Parwinder Singh, sarpanch, Warring village, said, “All the deceased were relatives and aged less than even 20 years. The protest was lifted after the police registered a case against the driver.

Talwinder Singh, DSP, Muktsar, who had visited the spot, said, “The families have lifted the protest and the bus driver arrested.”

The Bariwala police have registered a case against driver Karamjit Singh of Kakhanwali village here under Sections 304, 427 and 279 of the IPC.


Teacher killed as car rams into tree 

A teacher lost his life after the car he was driving hit a roadside tree on the Malout-Bathinda road on Wednesday morning. The deceased was identified as Ajay Kumar, a resident of Malout, who was going to the school in Mansa district to perform his duty.
