A day after 69,000 tablets were recovered from a Faridkot pharmacist, the STF today nabbed a local chemist with 4.25 lakh banned tablets, capsules, injections and syrups.

AIG STF Snehdeep Sharma and incharge Harbans Singh said the arrested shopkeeper was identified as Narinderpal Singh, alias Vicky (37), while his brother Chandan Parkash Lucky (34), who is his partner in crime, was at large.

Sharma said the duo had been running a major racket of smuggling banned medicine through their establishment, Kanchan Medicos, Jawahar Camp, here. The AIG said on a tip-off, a naka was laid at Middha chowk where a Maruti Ertiga was stopped for checking, which led to the recovery of huge stock of banned medicines.

Initially, 1,43,680 tablets and capsules (Lomotil, Spasmo-Proxyvon (R) Plus, Alprasafe 0.5, and Parvorin Spas) were recovered. During questioning, the accused disclosed that he owned a godown at Krishan Nagar, Shimlapuri.

During a raid at the godown, the cops recovered 46,800 tablets of Tredol-DM, 630 Clovidol 100, 47,100 Foridol DM, 1,73,010 Simplex C capsules, 1,200 Rexogesic injections and 250 bottles of Onrex syrup.

Narinderpal revealed that the licence of his shop was in the name of Rupinder Singh of Shingar Cinema and he had been paying “rent” to the licence holder.

Inspector Harbans Singh said the accused had bought the consignment from Delhi and it reached here via some courier. He said the value of the recovered medicines as per MRP was about Rs 40 lakh. The accused had been selling the same at three times the MRP.
