Woman nabbed with 10-gm heroin, sent to custody

Abohar: The Abohar police seized 10-gm heroin from Jagir Kaur of Sarabha Nagar. She has been remanded in custody for further investigation. The Sriganganagar police seized 240 gm of heroin from Praveen Chuchra, who alighted from a bus coming from New Delhi. In other incidents, 1,770 sedative tablets were seized from Jammu Basti residents Buta Singh and Rana German Singh and Krishan Singh of Ajit Singh Nagar in Abohar. Darshan Singh of Gaddandob village was nabbed with 80 sedative tablets. Daljit Singh Ravi of Khuikhera Rukanpura village, who was earlier nabbed with 530 habit-forming tablets, was remanded in judicial custody. OC

Moga pharmacy college gets autonomous status

Moga: Indo-Soviet Friendship College of Pharmacy at Ghal Kalan village in Moga district has been granted autonomous status by the University Grants Commission. This is India's first private pharmacy college, which has got UGC autonomous status. Director of ISF College Dr GD Gupta said the institute had students from 18 states and six foreign countries studying diploma, degree, post-graduation and doctorate degree courses in pharmaceutical sciences. Lok Adalat on July 13

Relatives of deceased staffers get jobs

Clearing the backlog of cases pertaining to providing jobs on compassionate grounds to the legal heirs of the employees of PWD, who died in harness, Vijay Inder Singla, PWD Minister, handed over appointment letters to eighty beneficiaries on Tuesday. The minister said the government had an empathy with the dependant family members of the employees who died in service leaving the family members without any sustainable means of livelihood. tns


Deputy Commissioner, SSP inspect Sangrur jail

The Sangrur Deputy Commissioner (DC) and SSP along with other senior officers on Tuesday inspected Sangrur Jail and also interacted with inmates lodged in the jail. "I have directed the jail authorities to conduct daily checking of all barracks to prevent any clash or illegal activity," said DC Ghanshyam Thori. tns


Jalalabad man booked for rape, yet to be arrested

A 34-year-old married woman has been allegedly raped by the house owner in Bhagwanpura locality of Jalalabad town. The woman, a native of Rode Jallewala village in Jalalabad subdivision, had been residing in the house of Joginderpal Singh. When she went to pay the rent, Joginderpal allegedly bolted the room and raped her. The police have booked the accused under Section 376 of the IPC. He is yet to be arrested. OC
