Two students hurt as lightning strikes school

Fatehgarh Sahib:

Students of Government High School Ganduan Kalan in the district had a miraculous escape when lightning struck the school building thrice within span of 10 minutes. There were minor burn injuries to two students, but it caused a huge loss to school property as the building developed a crack and 35 fans, 24 computers and two LCDs along with electric fittings were completely damaged. Besides, the lightning also struck at three houses in the village. OC

NRI panel member assumes charge  

The USA-based NRI Gurbhacan Singh Grewal on Friday assumed charge as an honorary member of the Punjab State Commission for NRIs, an official press release said here. Pensioners hold rally, seek dearness allowance

The Chandigarh unit of the Punjab Government Pensioners Welfare Association on Friday organised a rally against the failure of the state government in releasing the due DA instalments for the retired government employees. Moga man booked for killing wife

A 28-year-old woman was allegedly murdered with a sharp-edged weapon by her husband at Bedi Nagar in Moga city on Friday. The police have booked the accused under Section 302 of the IPC. The deceased has been identified as Jyoti, who was married to Sanjay hailing from Hakikatpur village of Bijnour (UP) about 10 years ago. TNS

Farmers protest 

Muktsar: Irate over erratic power supply, some farmers belonging to the BKU (Ekta Sidhupur) on Friday blocked the Muktsar-Ferozepur road at Lubanianwali village here. The protesters even demanded the transfer of a junior engineer (JE) by levelling corruption charges against him. TNS
