Say Punjab CM, not your CM, Harsimrat told

Say Punjab CM, not your CM, Harsimrat told

New Delhi, July 9

Known for his signature style of running the House, Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla today nudged Union minister Harsimrat Badal into saying “Punjab Chief Minister” when, addressing a Congress MP from Punjab, Harsimrat Badal said, “Your CM.”

The occasion was the Question Hour in which Congress MP from Ludhiana Ravneet Bittu raised some concerns about delays in the commissioning of a food park at Ladowal.

He began his question to Harsimrat by saying, “The minister remains a little upset with me but I hope today she will help me.”

Replying to Bittu, Harsimrat Badal said, “No I don’t remain upset with the MP in question though I do remain upset with the state government which has not inaugurated the food park in question, despite the requisite machinery being installed there. I wrote six letters to your CM. The park should have been completed a year ago but no tenders were floated. Machines have been installed and the inauguration is to be done.”

At this point, the Speaker interrupted Badal thrice — once to correct her into saying “Punjab CM” rather than “your CM”; a second time to wonder why the minister should say she is upset with a state government. “You are the minister of the Union, why say you are upset with a state government?” said Birla. He told her to modify her statement and say she was upset over development related delays than with the government.
