Sangrur, July 10

Members of the Motivator and Master Motivator Union were allegedly roughed up by the police near the house of Cabinet Minister Razia Sultana when they tried to reach the minister’s residence today. Some motivators were admitted to the Malerkotla hospital, while cops denied the allegations of thrashing of any protester.

The union members have been protesting in Malerkotla for the past many days for regularisation of their services in the Water and Sanitation Department.

When the protest march of the union members reached near the minister’s house today, the cops stopped them near the barricade. But when protesters tried to climb over the barricade, the police allegedly roughed them up. Some members alleged that they were thrashed by cops.

“The cops pushed women members and thrashed them. Some of them have suffered injuries and admitted to Malerkotla hospital,” said Gurpreet Singh, a union leader. Sangrur SSP Sandeep Garg said the cops only stopped union members from crossing the barricade. “Neither any cop nor any union member have suffered any injury,” said the SSP.
