Indo-Pak meeting to discuss Kartarpur pilgrim count today

Indo-Pak meeting to discuss Kartarpur pilgrim count today

New Delhi, July 13

Key issues such as connectivity at zero point and the number of pilgrims to be allowed through the Kartarpur corridor will be discussed on Sunday when Indian and Pakistani delegates hold a meeting on modalities related to the project, sources said.

The meeting will take place at the Attari-Wagah border on the Pakistani side. They said India will also flag its concerns over the security aspect. Matters related to the corridor modalities, as to who can use the corridor and its facilities, will be discussed. Besides, documents required for pilgrims to travel, number of people to be allowed would also be discussed, sources said.

Sources said India has high expectations from the meeting and hoped the key issues, including visit by a large number of pilgrims on special occasions, will be discussed. The project will allow easy access to Sikh pilgrims from India to Gurdwara Darbar Sahib in Kartarpur in Pakistan, the final resting place of Guru Nanak.

The work has been planned to be completed by October 31 before the commemoration of 550th birth anniversary of Guru Nanak in November. — PTI

Pak relents, Pro-Khalistani out from panel

Jalandhar: Acceding to India’s demand, Pakistan has removed pro-Khalistani leader Gopal Singh Chawla from the Pakistan Sikh Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee, a panel linked to the corridor. As Pakistan has re-constituted the PSGPC, the other pro-Khalistani leaders who no longer figure in the new list are Tara Singh, Bisan Singh, Kuljit Singh and Maninder Singh. Chawla is known to be a close aide of JuD chief Hafiz Saeed and was said to be misusing Pakistan gurdwaras’ premises for propagation of anti-India sentiments. TNS
