Heroin haul: Police remand for five more accused

Amritsar: The Amritsar (rural) police have procured the remand of five suspected drug traffickers arrested on Tuesday in connection with the 532 kg of heroin and 52 kg of assorted narcotics seized at ICP, Attari. A local court has granted three-day remand of Ajay Gupta, Parminder Babbar, Parvinder Singh (Batala), Luv Sharma (Amritsar) and Deepak Kansal Bobby (Kadian, Gurdaspur). TNS

Farmer commits suicide by consuming poison

A debt-ridden farmer, identified as Gurmukh Singh, allegedly committed suicide by consuming some poisonous substance at Ghumman village on Tuesday. Depression due to his inability to repay loans was said to be the cause of suicide. It was learnt that he was depressed following the death of his cattle. The police have registered a case. oc
