Fazilka DDPO skips grievance committee meet, suspended

Health Minister Balbir Singh Sidhu suspended District Development and Panchayat Officer (DDPO) Arun Jindal for failing to attend the District Grievances Committee meeting here on Monday.

Sources said some of the committee members complained about the panchayat officials of Fazilka district who failed to deliver but when the DDPO was invited to clarify, he was found absent. Sidhu spoke to Tript Rajinder Singh Bajwa, Rural Development and Panchayat Minister, on phone during the meeting and recommended a stern action. The minister later suspended the DDPO.

It is learnt that the Deputy Commissioner’s office has also decided to serve a show-cause notice on Jindal in this regard. However, Jindal while talking to The Tribune said he was not informed about the meeting.

Issues tabled

At the meeting, Fazilka MLA Davinder Singh Ghubaya raised the issue of non-availability of officials in their respective offices, resulting in inconvenience to the general public. He also demanded sufficient irrigation water in tail-end villages.

Abohar MLA Arun Narang said the work of laying of sewerage system in Abohar town was carried out at snail’s pace and demanded to expedite it. He also demanded to raise a tourist spot in Asia’s largest open wild life sanctuary situated in Abohar subdivision.

The issue of worst traffic situation resulting in chaos in Abohar and Fazilka towns was also raised in the meeting. Besides this, the members also demanded to fill up a large number of vacant posts of specialist doctors in Fazilka Civil Hospital. The minister assured to do the needful after taking over the charge of the Health Department.

The members also demanded basic amenities in four colonies carved out by the Municipal Council, Fazilka, in different parts of town during the last more than a decade. The minister directed Executive Officer, Fazilka, to do the needful till July 10.

While discussing the agenda points, the minister announced to set up a new bus stand opposite the District Administrative Complex, expansion of grain markets of Fazilka and Jalalabad, provide clean potable water for Abohar residents and early completion of memorial belonging to the Bishnoi community at Mehrana village in Abohar subdivision.
