Woman’s ‘murder’: Kin protest police inaction

Woman’s ‘murder’: Kin protest police inaction

Tribune News Service
Moga, May 20

Residents of Mahesari Sandhuan village staged a protest outside the Moga (Rural) police station at Ghal Kalan village on Monday, alleging that they were trying to hush-up the murder case of a 35-year-old woman.

Kirandeep Kaur was found dead under suspicious circumstances at her house in Mahesari Sandhuan village on May 8. The protesters, including the family members of the deceased, raised slogans against the police and demanded a murder case against the deceased woman’s husband, Tarsem Singh, and in-laws.

Deceased woman’s brother Kuldip Singh and her two minor daughters Ranjit Kaur and Jasveer Kaur alleged that she (Kirandeep) was subjected to physical torture by her husband for the past many months.

Kuldip said injury marks were visible on the body of her sister, but the police were not willing to acknowledge them, probably under the political pressure of the local Congress leadership.

However, the police said further legal action would be initiated only after the autopsy report was received.
