Hardeep Singh Puri, BJP candidate for the Amritsar Lok Sabha seat, challenged Congress nominee Gurjeet Singh Aujla for a debate on future growth and development of the city of the Golden Temple after releasing his vision document here today.

Flanked by BJP leaders, he released his dream of Amritsar with six components and other 23 points as ways to realise these.

The components of his dream are Amritsar as a model for sustainable and inclusive development with no one left behind, a model for modern rural and urban infrastructure anchored in Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s flagship programmes — Swachh Bharat, Housing for All, Smart Cities — and one that provides ease of living to all, Amritsar as the gateway to North India with world-class connectivity by road, rail and air, an international industrial and trading hub, an international tourism destination with a religious, culinary, cultural, artistic and medical appeal and a hub for educational excellence at all levels in all major areas.

He stated 23 factors to realise his dream for the border district. These are the Smart City project to be taken up on war footing, Swachh Bharat accelerated to the next stage, increasing investment, upgrading international airport to connect with all major international capitals, a high-speed train corridor with Delhi, extension of dedicated freight rail corridor up to Attari.

Other methods mentioned in his document include special status being a border district, promotion of export potential of indigenous industries, including scarf (phulkari), footwear and shawls, industrial belt at Majitha, international institute of culinary destination and ensuring Sikhs are adequately represented at all national-level cultural and religious institutions.
