Chandigarh, May 17

The police have told the Punjab and Haryana High Court that former MLA Sukhpal Singh Nannu was named as an accused during the investigation of a kidnapping case. The assertion came on a petition filed by an allegedly missing woman seeking the quashing of a kidnapping case registered in Ferozepur last month.

The court, on the previous date of hearing, was told that the FIR was registered at the behest of the woman petitioner’s husband and she was apprehending threat to her life and liberty at the “hands of the respondent-husband, his family members as well as her parents”.

The bench was also told that the petitioner was, rather, the victim in the FIR. During the previous hearing, the complainant-husband and petitioner’s mother were present in court and had stated they were equally concerned about the protection of life and liberty of the petitioner.
