Rajya Sabha MP Partap Singh Bajwa’s appearance at Rahul Gandhi’s maiden rally in Punjab in support of Fatehgarh Sahib candidate Dr Amar Singh, today created quite a flutter within the state Congress, as he shared the stage with his bete noire CM Capt Amarinder Singh.

Annoyed over the denial of Gurdaspur ticket, Bajwa has been keeping away from the campaign for party candidate Sunil Jakhar.

On Saturday, the CM while campaigning in Gurdaspur called Jakhar as “future CM of Punjab”. When Bajwa was asked to comment on this issue, he quoted famous couplet, “Dil behlane ko Ghalib ye khayal acha hai.”

Apparently to placate Bajwa, the party high command had invited him to the Khanna rally. In a conciliatory gesture, Rahul made Bajwa sit next to him, with the CM on the other side.

Initially, Bajwa spent some time with Rahul, apparently venting his ire against the state party leadership. He also reportedly raised the same issue with Punjab affairs incharge Asha Kumari. He, however, denied the same.

On the stage, Capt Amarinder and Bajwa did not see eye to eye. Once the leaders alighted from the podium, as Rahul was talking to mediapersons, Bajwa maintained his distance by pulling away his chair at some distance from where Capt Amarinder and Asha Kumari were seated. It was only on the intervention of Rahul’s aide that Bajwa gave in and brought his chair next to Asha Kumari.
