AG: Govt to file case against Majithia over ‘threat’ to IG

AG: Govt to file case against Majithia over ‘threat’ to IG

Chandigarh, May 13

Taking a serious note of “threats” by senior SAD leader Bikram Singh Majithia to IG Kunwar Vijay Pratap Singh, the state is all set to file a case of intimidation and defamation against the former in the court tomorrow.

Advocate General Atul Nanda said the case was being filed on the directive of Chief Minister Capt Amarinder Singh, who had instructed the legal team to pursue the matter.

The Chief Minister said he would not tolerate such “threats and intimidation” of his officers by Akalis or anyone else. The Akalis had the habit of browbeating and threatening anyone who dared to go against them, the Chief Minister alleged, pointing out that they had earlier also used offensive language against Justice Ranjit Singh, who headed the commission that inquired into sacrilege cases.

Capt Amarinder alleged that the abusive and threatening language used by Majithia against Kunwar Vijay Pratap in an interview (a video of which has gone viral) showed the desperation of the Akali leaders, given the fact that the IG was all set to be back to the SIT and resume the probe against them in the Bargari and Kotkapura firing cases.

“The IG will complete his investigations and we will ensure that his findings are taken to their logical conclusion through the due process of law to bring the guilty to book,” the Chief Minister declared.

He pointed out that the Akali leaders had tried to scuttle the probe by getting Kunwar Vijay Pratap transferred out of the SIT through the Election Commission, which was acting as a tool of the BJP government at the Centre.
