Moga, April 12

A 24-year-old Jat-Sikh, who was a reputed kabaddi player of the area, allegedly died due to drug overdose at Daulewala Mayar village in Dharamkot subdivision of the district, police sources said today.

The deceased has been identified as Hardev Singh of nearby Randiala village of the district.

Preliminary investigations revealed that he was working on a harvesting combine and had come from Madhya Pradesh yesterday. However, he did not go home. Instead, he stayed at Daulewala Mayar village, which is known as the “drug capital” of the state.

He reportedly consumed chemical-laced “noxious” drug and fell unconscious. He was found lying on the highway adjoining the police post.

When his family members came to know about it, they took him to a local hospital from where he was referred to the district hospital here. He died in the hospital on Friday.

A postmortem examination was conducted and the body was handed over to the family for cremation.
