Anandpur Sahib, April 15

Senior Congress leader and party candidate from the Anandpur Sahib parliamentary constituency Manish Tewari started his campaign after paying obeisance at Takht Sri Kesgarh Sahib and later at the Naina Devi temple here today.

The cavalcade of Tewari, which left Chandigarh for Anandpur Sahib in morning, was welcomed by Congress workers at Mullanpur Garibdass, Boothgarh, Kurali, Ropar, Ghanauli, Bharatgarh and Kiratpur Sahib. This, however, disrupted the traffic on the national highway near Sadar police station of Ropar and Bharatgarh bus stop when all the vehicles in the cavalcade stopped there and Congress workers spread out all over the road leading to long queues of vehicles. The slip road at Ropar was already clogged with the Congress workers. Surprisingly no policeman was there to regulate the traffic even as Tewari stayed there for nearly 10 minutes accepting the wishes of his supporters.

Prominent Congress leaders who accompanied Tewari included Speaker of the Punjab Vidhan Sabha Rana KP Singh, Animal Husbandry Minister Balbir Singh Sidhu, Technical Education Minister Charanjit Singh Channi, former minister Jagmohan Singh Kang, MLAs Angad Saini, Darshan Lal Mangupur and Gurpreet Singh GP.

Tewari while interacting with mediapersons said the Congress was slated to register a landslide victory in the elections and form government in the Centre.
