Amritsar, April 15

The Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) has announced to initiate legal action against a Mumbai-based publisher for releasing a controversial book possessing objectionable comments on the 400-year-old “Dukhbhanjni Beri” and the pool of nectar in the Golden Temple complex.

Criticising it, Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee president Gobind Singh Longowal said it appeared to be a deliberate attempt to malign the Sikh religious significance under a conspiracy. He said the gurdwara committee would conduct an inquiry into it and ensure action against the guilty.

“It has come to light that Wilco Publishing House, situated in Mumbai, has published a book, which is misguiding readers that a wish can be fulfilled by tying a thread to Dukhbhanjni Beri. Similarly, the sarovar has been mentioned as ‘jheel’ (lake). Both these references are highly objectionable and we have decided to take legal course against the publisher,” he said.

Longowal appealed to the people to ignore such misleading literature and the children should be taught only through recognised syllabus books.

Meanwhile, Longowal also took cognisance of the misprinting of Gurbani in a textbook ‘Aasan Di Vaar’ and held the Punjab School Education Board responsible for the lapse.

“Earlier also, the education board had been lenient and prescribed books that contained distorted Sikh history. The board ought to be stern in taking action so that mistakes should not be repetited,” he said.
