SGPC reinstates sacked staff

SGPC reinstates sacked staff

Amritsar, April 10

The standoff between the SGPC management and hundreds of its sacked employees resolved today after the latter were reinstated on their earlier terms and conditions. However, the gap in their service span would be considered as “leave without pay”.

While agreeing upon it, both the sides resolved the issues and the 13-day-long hunger protest was called off by agitating employees, who were employed during Kirpal Singh Badungar’s period, but their services were terminated after Gobind Singh Longowal took the charge in 2017.

Out of 700 employees, 523 were dismissed then. Some challenged it in the court too but the issue remained pending.

Today, with the intervention of SGPC president Gobind Singh Longowal, around 140 employees, who staged protest outside Teja Singh Samundri Hall, were reinstated. Longowal, along with chief secretary Dr Roop Singh and executive members Manjit Singh, Ram Singh and Bhagwant Singh Sialka, also went to Sri Guru Ram Das Hospital to know the well-being of one of the agitating employees Sarhusan Singh, who had consumed poison, but was saved with timely medical aid. He had been employed as a sewadar on the daily wage basis but was dismissed from service.

Dr Roop Singh said they were deputed at their earlier positions. Most of them were posted on contract or daily wage basis. “Sarhusan Singh is recovering and his medical expenses will be borne by the SGPC,” he said.
