Farmers told to harvest crop across fencing first

Fazilka, April 12

The Border Security Force (BSF) has asked the farmers whose land fall across the barbed wire fencing in Fazilka sector to harvest the standing wheat crop in first phase and remaining in second phase. Naresh Kumar Commandant, 96 battalion BSF during a liaison meeting held with the farmers at Mauzam forward said the BSF would extend full security to farmers for smooth harvesting of crop. He exhorted the farmers not to bring children with them across the fence for security reasons.

He revealed that the number of women jawans had been increased for frisking women going across the fence during the harvesting season.

The officials advised the villagers not to use loud speakers during night as it caused inconvenience to the jawans deployed near the international boundary.

Satnam Singh, a resident of Mauzam village, demanded that the farmers should be allowed to spend more time across the fence for timely harvesting of the crop.

Block Samiti member Subeg Singh of Hasta Kalan village urged from the BSF officials to allow frequent movement of tractor-trailers and combine harvesters across the fence for speedy harvesting. — OC
