Faridkot, April 5

Confusion over the fee structure for 79 seats of postgraduate (PG) medical courses (MD/MS) in the SGPC-run Sri Guru Ram Das University of Health Sciences (SGRDUHS) has left aspirants sulking.

While the counselling for admissions to these seats is scheduled for April 7 (Sunday), candidates say they have no clarity about the tuition fee of this university.

While the SGRDUHS has announced its fee structure for three-year PG course seats at Rs 37.64 lakh, the Department of Medical Education and Research (DMER) and Baba Farid University of Health Sciences (BFUHS) has declared this fee structure at Rs 19.5 lakh.

In its notification on March 29, the DMER had announced Rs 19.5 lakh as the fee for PG (clinical) course seats in six medical colleges, including the SGRDUHS, and on the basis of this notification, the BFUHS will be admitting students in all these colleges on April 7.

As per the DMER notification, the BFUHS will collect six months’ fee on the spot on April 7 on behalf of respective institutions at the time of counselling in Faridkot and the same will be transferred to the respective institutions after completion of the admission process. However, the SGRDUHS has invited students to deposit the fee in its bank account as per its “autonomous” fee structure of Rs 37.64 lakh which includes Rs 4.71 lakh as the registration fee and Rs 1.58 lakh as administrative charges.

In its public notice, the registrar of the SGRDUHS claimed that in exercise of the power conferred by Section 5 (xxi) of Sri Guru Ram Das University of Health Sciences Act, 2016, and government-approved statues, the university has fixed its tuition fee and it is binding on all candidates.
