Sangrur, March 28

Though the SAD is yet to announce him as its candidate from the Sangrur parliamentary constituency, but the party’s Lehragaga MLA Parminder Dhindsa, who remained reluctant till last week after his father Rajya Sabha MP Sukhdev Dhindsa’s advice against contesting elections, today sounded poll bugle during the Youth Akali Dal (YAD) “maha rally” at the local grain market.

Both SAD and Congress have not declared their candidates till date, but probables of both parties — Dhindsa from the SAD and Kewal Singh Dhillon from the Congress — have been campaigning for the last many days.

“I would abide by the decision of my party as I have gained everything because of my party only,” said Parminder Dhindsa while speaking during the rally.

Though Parminder neither sought any vote, nor talked much about forthcoming elections and mainly targeted the Punjab Congress government for its failures, but other party leaders, including former SAD Malerkotla MLA Farzana Alam and SAD spokesperson Winnerjit Goldy, openly declared him as their candidate from Sangrur and sought votes for him.

“Bhagwant Mann, who goes to Parliament after consuming liquor, could never shun liquor. I request to all Sangrur voters please do not elect alcoholic MP again. I have noted that your choice for Sangrur seat is Parminder Dhindsa and I will convey the same to our party president. The names of candidates will be announced in the coming days,” said Bikram Majithia, SAD general secretary and YAD patron.

Leader of Opposition and AAP leader Harpal Singh Cheema said, “Bhagwant has dared to announce shunning liquor from stage and number of his supporters has increased after that. But the SAD is fast losing ground and its leaders only want to spread confusion through such statements.”
