Malout, March 28

Akalis have alleged that policemen have asked their party workers to remove publicity material from their houses.

Senior SAD leader Harpreet Singh, ex-MLA, Malout, said, “Our workers from Lakhewali, Baam, Urang, Ramnagar and Ennakhera villages have informed me that the cops are making rounds in the villages asking them to remove publicity material from their residences. It can’t be tolerated. There is nothing illegal in it. The Election Commission can add the expenditure of such publicity material in the expenditure account of party. I have brought this to the notice of the SDM and the DSP, Malout. We have also filed a complaint with the Election Commission in this regard.”

Meanwhile, SAD workers have started a campaign against this alleged highhandedness of the police on social media. “I have uploaded a post on my Facebook page urging all party workers that if someone approaches them to remove party’s publicity material from any private building, he/she should approach me immediately,” Harpreet said.

The SAD has urged the Election Commission to transfer Muktsar SSP Manjit Singh Dhesi, saying he was the brother of the OSD to Chief Minister Capt Amarinder Singh.

Further, the AAP has sought transfer of Malout SDM Gopal Singh, saying that he was the Assistant Commissioner (General), Muktsar, in 2017 Assembly elections, and now performing the duty of Assistant Returning Officer, Malout.

Meanwhile, Iqbal Singh, SP, Malout, said, “I have asked the SHO and nothing such happened anywhere. Further, it is not even the duty of the police.”
