Amritsar, March 15

The State Special Operation Cell (SSOC), the intelligence wing of Punjab Police, today nabbed three radicals allegedly involved in anti-national activities. The police recovered two country-made pistols of .32-bore along with three magazines and 14 live cartridges from their possession.

The police say people responsible for sacrilege incidents across the state were among their targets and they had procured weapons for the same.

They have been identified as Baljit Singh of Sri Hargobindpur, who resides in Ajnala, Jagdev Singh, alias Jagga, of Fatehgarh Sabra in Ferozepur (now Baba Bakala) and Manjit Singh of Jhadunangal village in Khilchian here.

SSOC officials said suspects were associated with different radical organisations and were participating in programmes being held across the state. They came in contact with each other through a social networking website. They bought weapons from Indore in Madhya Pradesh. The origin and supply of weapons were being ascertained, they added.

Preliminary probe revealed that Baljit Singh used to work as a granthi at a gurdwara in Nagpur (Maharashtra) for four years and later shifted to Ajnala. During search of his residence (at Ajnala), the police seized literature on radical organisations. He had also visited Thailand in September 2018.

Officials said Manjit Singh had been in Malaysia from 2012 to April 2018 and after that, he came in contact with Baljit Singh. Jagdev Singh visited Malaysia recently in February 2019. All three accused were produced in court, which sent them to police remand till March 18.

Harvinder Singh, an SSOC official, said a probe was underway to ascertain the source of funds and tasks given by radical organisations to them.
